Southern Spaghetti Sauce Recipe



Southern Spaghetti Sauce Recipe - A savory and rich thick spaghetti meat sauce filled with aromatics, spices and herbs ready to devour over pastas or in baked dishes!  


Ingredients

3 tbsp extra virgin olive oil

1 lb ground beef and turkey

1 lb Italian sausage

seasoned salt to taste

1/4 tsp black pepper

1 cup chopped onions

1/2 cup chopped green peppers

1 tbsp minced garlic

1 1/2 cans crushed tomatoes 28 ounce can

1 can tomato sauce 29 ounce can

2 tbsp red wine

1/4 cup chicken stock

1 tbsp Italian seasoning can make it homemade

2 tbsp granulated sugar plus 1 teaspoon

1/8 tsp crushed red pepper flakes


Instructions

Add olive oil to large pot over medium high heat on stove.

Add ground beef, italian sausage, onion, green pepper and salt and pepper. Brown until cooked.

Next add garlic and cook for 1 minute.

Then add in crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, red wine, chicken stock, italian seasoning, sugar, and red pepper flakes. Continue to simmer until sauce has thickened about 30-40 minutes then add to additional recipes or serve.

Notes

Try Different meats! - Try different meats like venison or even ground turkey and pepperoni and vary up the flavors. 

Make it Vegan! - Also you can make this vegetarian/vegan by replacing the meats with vegetables or even lentils and also replacing the chicken stock with a vegetable stock.

Allow the Flavors to Simmer - Don't rush the cooking process for this sauce.  For flavors to truly develop, you must let them come together slowly.  It is truly worth it!
