Full Recipe:
Ingredients:
Cake:
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 3/4 cups granulated sugar
3/4 cup cocoa powder
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
2 eggs
1 cup whole milk
1/2 cup vegetable oil
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 cup boiling water
Chocolate Buttercream:
1 cup butter, softened
3 cups powdered sugar, sifted
3/4 cup cocoa powder, sifted
A pinch of salt
Approximately 1/2 cup heavy cream (adjust as needed for consistency)
Chocolate Ganache:
1/2 cup heavy cream
4 oz semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
Instructions:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, mix together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
Combine Wet Ingredients: Add eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients; beat on medium speed until well combined.
Add Boiling Water: Stir in boiling water by hand until smooth (batter will be thin).
Bake: Pour batter into prepared pans evenly and bake for about 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Cool: Cool cakes in pans on wire racks for 10 minutes; remove from pans to wire racks to cool completely.
For Chocolate Buttercream: 7. Prepare Buttercream: Beat butter until creamy; gradually add powdered sugar alternately with cream, beating on low speed after each addition until smooth; stir in cocoa powder and salt.
For Chocolate Ganache: 8. Prepare Ganache: Heat heavy cream just until it begins to boil, then pour over chopped chocolate; let sit for one minute, then stir until smooth.
Assembly: 9. Layer Cake: Place one layer of cake on a serving plate; spread with buttercream; top with second layer of cake. 10. Crumb Coat: Cover entire cake with a thin layer of buttercream for crumb coating; chill for about half an hour. 11. Final Frosting: Apply final coat of buttercream frosting smoothly. 12. Add Ganache: Pour ganache over the top of the cake, allowing it to drip down the sides. 13. Decorate: Top with swirls of chocolate buttercream and pieces of chocolate bar.
